Triclinium 5, with opus sectile floor, and 4th style wall decoration on black. Looking towards north-west corner of room.
Maiuri said, the spacious triclinium and drawing room, with its walls austerely painted from dado to cornice with sober architectural and ornamental motifs on a black ground broken by wide red bands, has on the other hand a dazzling floor of marble intarsia work (opus sectile), without any real geometrical design, being composed of so many separate tiles of varying shapes in different marbles.
On the same side, there are a small room leading to the kitchen, the storeroom and the latrine, and a beautiful internal cubiculum with red walls and a floor in marble sectile; in the rear there is an elegant reception room (oecus) with the walls and the vault finely painted with a red background and a polychrome marble floor.
